The balance of chartered surveyors who received instructions to sell homes
in December turned positive for the first time since May 2007.

According to the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, 4% more surveyors
said they had seen a rise in the number of homes being put up for sale,
compared with those who had seen a fall.

The figure is up from a balance of minus seven which was recorded in
November.

Rics said the fact that Home Information Packs were extended to cover all
properties may be responsible for the increase in the number of homes coming
on to the market.

But the group said that Scotland was the only region in the UK where
surveyors said the cost of property had increased during the month.
House price falls were recorded across all regions of England and Wales,
with the heaviest falls concentrated in the West Midlands and East Anglia.
