Around 90% of landlords are confident about the future of renting in the UK
despite warnings of a slowdown in the housing market, a new survey shows.

Some 86% of landlords even said they plan to increase their property
portfolios over the next six months, the research for high street bank
Bradford & Bingley said.

The findings come as the global credit crunch continues to grip the housing
market, sparking a slowdown in house prices and warnings that fewer people
will look to rent.

But the survey found landlords are hoping to benefit from this situation,
with 95% confident that rental yields - currently holding at 5.72% - will
remain steady if house prices continue to fall.

Jeremy Law, head of buy-to-let at Bradford & Bingley, said: "These are the
people on the ground who are researching their areas, taking out the
mortgages, buying, maintaining the properties and managing the tenants.
Therefore their opinions are important."
