About 2,000 jobs are to be created as work begins on a new £110m business park next to Durham Tees Valley Airport.

County Durham’s Skylink International Business Park is to be built by Peel Holdings, owner of the airport, along with Tees Valley Regeneration, One NorthEast and English Partnerships as part of the Tees Valley Regeneration scheme.

The 250-acre park is aimed at businesses needing between 20,000 and 500,000 sq ft, with emphasis on airport business and freight companies.

Roger Wheeldon, from Peel Holdings, said: "Skylink International Business Park will offer occupiers access to the world on their doorstep through the fast growing Durham Tees Valley Airport as well as excellent road, rail and sea links.”

Tees Valley Regeneration chief executive Joe Docherty added: "The Tees Valley already has an unbeatable offering for business looking to start up or relocate.

"This will attract millions more in inward investment and help boost the profile of the region internationally."
