Scots Net Highest House Price Hike

Scotland and the South East of England have seen the biggest hike in house
prices in 2007, with both areas recording a rise of nearly 40%, new figures
show.

Statistics from the Bank of Scotland revealed that Montrose, in Angus,
Scotland, recorded the biggest price rise of 39% since the beginning of
2007, while Winchester in Hampshire saw rises of 38%.

The bank also said its annual survey showed no towns in the UK now have an
average house price under £100,000, while in more than half of towns the
average price is more than £200,000.

But the figures revealed that despite the shift, which also saw Inverurie in
Aberdeenshire overtake Edinburgh as the most expensive place to live in
Scotland, southern towns and cities are still the most expensive places to
live in the UK, with Chelsea topping the poll as the most expensive.
